I am a huge fan of Cardeno C so I eagerly look forward to each new book and I am never disappointed with the stories CC writes. I know this book my not be everyone's cup of tea and may even seem unrealistic considering it feature a religious, ultra conservative Republican who is still deeply hidden in the closet and the wealthy son of liberal Democratic parents he lives out loud & proud but in truth I think it is wonderful to see that while people can be polar opposite when you love someone you are willing to find a way to see each others hearts and you don't ask the other person to change who they are -you work to find common ground so that love has a place to grow. This story starts off hot and heavy and along the way a friendship is born that develops into a deep love that allows both parties a chance to understand where the other one is coming from and allows them to move outside of the mold they have been cast into. In life we may often be born into an ideal set by our parents and family and only as we open our minds to other ideas do we grow into our individual selves, that is what this story is truly about......Ford loves his family and faith but was confused about how his sexuality fit into that mold. When he meets Trevor he comes face to face with those feelings and has to struggle to find his own path that gives him the love he needs as well as the job he wants because he doesn't want to lose everything he has work so hard for, and Trevor finds the one person who makes him willing to step outside of his comfort zone. Trevor is the most amazingly strong and supportive person that all of us dream of having in our lives. I can honestly say I love this book and it has earned a place as one of my top 3 favorites books.Product details

Cardeno C. has an amazing body of work covering almost every genre of gay fiction. A truly accomplished author with a host of five-star books and VIP partnerships, Strange Bedfellows, is a bit of a departure from much of her other work - a little lighter, a little more clever, a little more fun to read. It is, in fact, exactly what I was looking for to brighten up my week.
The story is very simple, but also fairly unique. It features two characters involved in politics, a 37-year-old U. S. Representative from Missouri and Trevor Mago, the son of the Democratic President of The United States. Adding even more levels of recognition, accomplishment (and, in some cases, shackles), Trevor is also a brilliant self-made billionaire, five years older than Ford, and Ford, in turn, is the son of one of the two U. S. Senators from Missouri. Both of the men are gay, which adds some major wrinkles to their non-existent love lives. Trevor finds it incredibly difficult to deal with what his hook-ups want from him, more often than not, money, a job, a contact within the White House. Ford is bedeviled by his family's relentless right-wing family values and their conservative disapproval of gays and same-sex marriage.
These men were raised in more-than-unusual families that went a long way to influencing their beliefs, attitudes and the obstacles they are still battling to live a successful, fulfilling life. Trevor hates the idea of relationships, seeing that both his parents had long entertained a bevy of bed-mates in their open marriage, and lies about relationships because of the political necessity of keeping mum about their multiple infidelities. Trevor was raised believing there were only three people any of them could ever trust - each other, father, mother and son. Ford was raised in his evangelical church, raised to believe he was an evil sinner who couldn't control his same-sex urges, no matter how hard he tried, destined to be celibate or unhappy his entire life, until he finally reconciled his beliefs, as an adult - that he was exactly as God made him, and denying that is to deny the intentions of God Himself.
Trevor has stayed as far away as he possibly could from politics, knowing, first-hand and up-close, that there was no integrity in the profession, no truth, no innocence and no honesty. So what's the likelihood that a religiously-up-tight closeted Republican House Member and the billionaire son of the Liberal First Family, who trusts no one and hates politics with a passion, would ever be able to get together? Slim-to-none. But it happens, nonetheless.
The men hooked up in dark gay bar in Washington DC and went back to Trevor's place to get it on. Which they did, to great satisfaction. It's not until the lights come on in Trevor's penthouse condo, that Ford realizes who he just slept with - a man who could now blackmail him with the destruction of his political career, a man who is the son of the opposition. As Trevor politely points out, he's already got enough first-hand ammunition to blackmail him forever, so what has he got to lose by jumping back into bed with him again? Which he does.
Surprisingly, this produces almost no angst. These men sincerely like each other, their banter is funny, clever and endearing, they make each other laugh, they make each other horny and they love being together. Nice to get all that stuff out of the way right off the bat. What's left is whether Ford will have to guts to come out (of course, he will), and both men facing both sets of parents and the insane pressures they put on their only sons, all in the name of family-loyalty, political party and, in Ford's case, the church he's betraying by being openly gay.
That's it, I don't want to give away much more, not because I don't want to reveal incredibly clever twists in the ensuing plot, but because there aren't incredibly clever twists in the plot. The plot itself is not exactly an edge-of-your-seat page-turner - but the characters are. The interplay between the men is beautifully written (to be expected from Cardeno C.), there are moments of laugh-out-loud humor, one fight that breaks the couple up (for less than 24 hours), and the endless, stereotypical but heartwarming bickering when the Democratic President and the right-wing Republican Senator work to merge their families and their political campaigns - a feat that staggers the imagination.
Strange Bedfellows offers a lovely happily-ever-after for these two empathetic characters. Are they authentic and believable? - not really, because they're both bigger than life, but their inner light is so lovely, and they make such a wonderful couple that you'll be rooting for them page after page, without exception.
This is another lovely story by Cardeno C., one that I recommend for a few hours' light reading on the beach, or indoors on a rainy day. The author provides almost no heartache, but lots of tender, funny, intimate and sexy dialogue that exquisitely expresses the story of these two men falling in love. Don't miss it.
As always, Cardeno C's writing was quality, the story flowed well and the characters were strong. I still had some issues with the way the characters were written. Trevor was actually okay. He was at an age where being a billionaire wasn't unrealistic. At 42 though, you'd think he'd have had at least one serious relationship. Ford was another matter. If he was elected to office, I can't imagine his private life wasn't questioned more by his parents and the public. It's also hard to imagine that much sexual repression at 37. It's also rather hard to imagine someone that age not coming out sooner. I understand hiding it because of politics but he could have been more honest with his parents, since he was so opposed to lies.
There wasn't enough of the relationship building for me. The story didn't make me feel that much time had gone by. Most of the book is taken up with Ford bemoaning his family's probable reactions and whining about not coming out for Trevor. Then rather suddenly, everything seems to come together so easily. It was a rather abrupt ending. It really didn't seem like a very realistic portrayal of politics or the presidency.
